The 356 was the first car built by Porsche. For economical reasons, it was developped on ame machanic bases as the Beetle. Its power will increase quickly because this agile little car met a tremendous succes in the fifties et will be part of many popular competitions. In this composition you see a Porsche 356 C during the 1957 Mille Miglia race, being chased by a Ferrari 250 GTO.

The Mille Miglia, meaning “a thousand miles,” was an endurance race in Italy that was held 24 times between 1927 and 1957. The Mille Miglia became one of the most famous and important endurance races and played a significant role in the history of Gran Turismo racing.
The Mille Miglia was not run along a fixed route, but it did take place in the same region of Italy. The route was changed no fewer than 13 times. The biggest difference, however, is that before World War II, the Mille Miglia was run counterclockwise, and after the war, clockwise.
The Mille Miglia has been revived as a regularity rally for classic cars dating from 1927 through 1957.
